AirCon Intensive Service Course

This course is for Trades people who wish to learn; safe working procedures, best practice service skills, and the fundamental componentry for air conditioning. This course is in no way designed to replace a full Refrigeration & Air Conditioning apprenticeship, nor to replace the years of hands on experience required to perfect these skills and techniques.

Course Content

A short sharp intensive course designed to hone in on the fundamental theory and practical skills required for working with Air Conditioning systems. During this course you will learn about the industry level skills for:

Purge Brazing – best practice

  • Hazards, safety awareness & PPE
  • Purging using OFDN, pipe work preparation, brazing and pressure testing
  • Oxyacetylene and MAPP gas systems
  • Safe lighting-up and extinguishing techniques

AC Basics – theory, components & diagnosis

  • Basic HVAC+R theory and the science of the cycle
  • AC system types and uses
  • HVAC + Refrigeration safety incl. safe handling of refrigerants
  • Sensible and latent heat explained
  • Heat pump systems, components and operation explained
  • Do’s and don’ts, tips and tricks
  • How components function and how to test them
  • Charging, pressure testing and leak testing
  • Hands-on fault finding exercise

Tools and Equipment

  • Know your specialised refrigeration tools and resources
  • Use and maintenance of vacuum pumps and vacuum gauges

Prerequisites

Essential Requirements 

  • PPE required: safety boots, gloves, safety glasses 

Helpful to have 

  • EWRB certification (any type) 
  • WorkSafe Approved Fillers Licence (refrigerant) 
  • Your own tools (refrigeration‑specific equipment & hand tools)
