About this Course

This practical, handson workshop teaches the essential skills required to purge braze refrigeration pipework correctly and safely. Ideal for installers, apprentices, and technicians wanting to improve brazing quality, reduce leaks, and prevent contamination inside HVAC/R systems. 

Participants learn how to prepare pipework, set up purging using OFDN (oxygen free dry nitrogen), control heat, and achieve clean, professional joints. This workshop is designed for tradies who want realworld brazing skills.

What You’ll Learn 

This course is 70% hands-on practical and 30% theory learning and covers the following: 

  • Braze copper to copper, copper to steel and copper to brass 

  • Brazing hazards, safe brazing techniques and PPE 

  • Components and functions of MAPP gas, Oxy-MAPP and oxy-acetylene systems 

  • Lighting-up and extinguishing techniques 

  • Pipe preparation, joint creation and cleaning 

  • Learn purging using oxygen-free dry nitrogen 

 

Assessment

  • measure the success of your brazing with pressure testing 

  • assess brazing penetration into joints 

 

Essential Requirements 

  • PPE required: safety boots, gloves, safety glasses 

 

Outcome 

Participants receive a Record of Learning certificate.
